There are some intriguing races over the extended Thanksgiving weekend going on across the country. My goal is to uncover a few spot plays that I deem to be of high value, no matter how large or small the racetrack is.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 25

7:00 p.m. ET • Del Mar Race 8. Jockey John Velazquez hops aboard 8 Mr. Impossible today. Last time out Mr. Impossible tried turf for the second time in his career and was a well-beaten sixth. Now he’s back on the dirt against lesser company.
BET: 8 Across at odds of 5-1 or better $6 total

9:03 p.m. ET • Remington Park Race 3. The trainer-jockey combo of Robertino Diodoro and Cristian Torres win at 33 percent rate over a sample size of 70 races. Here the combo is together with 5 Still On the Books.
Bet: 5 to Win at odds of 2-1 or better $2 total

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 26

3:14 p.m. ET • Aqueduct Race 8. A competitive Grade 3 stakes here. Veteran runner 5 Synthesis has finished in the money in every entered since February. He has a great chance to outrun his odds in this field where others are likely to be overbet.
Bet: 5 Across at 5-1 or better $6 total

5:56 p.m. ET • Churchill Downs Race 11. The feature race in Louisville today is the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes for 2-year-olds. Trainer Dale Romans has Joe Talamo in the irons on 9 Cyclone Mischief, who is 1-for-1 at today’s 8.5 furlong distance.
Bet: 9 Across at odds of 8-1 or better $6 total

6:30 p.m. ET • Del Mar Race 7. The 2022 edition of the Seabiscuit Handicap is a real doozy with, I would argue, the strongest field of the weekend. Of the contenders here, I am most interested in 1 Santin out of the Brendan Walsh barn. Jockey Umberto Rispoli is back in the mount and the pace projection should allow him first run at the leaders. This colt has run against and beaten horses at this same level this year.
Bet: 1 Across at odds of 3-1 or better $6 total

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 27

12:50 p.m. ET • Aqueduct Race 2. Trainer Philip Serpe finally gives 5 Rigby a try on dirt. There is dirt pedigree there, and this should be the correct distance she wants to go.
Bet: 5 Across at 4-1 or better $6 total

1:18 p.m. ET • Aqueduct Race 3. Sometimes you just need to keep things simple. Why would I bet 4 My Man Matty? Well, why would I not bet this first-time starter out of Kantharos? Jockey Javier Castellano jumps off 1 Stonecoldwarrior to ride today.
Bet: 4 Across at 4-1 or better $6 total

2:15 p.m. ET • Fair Grounds Race 1. Trainer Joe Sharp runs back 3 Jazz Jazz Jazz less than ten days after her debut and makes a substantial drop from Maiden Special Weight to Maiden Claiming company.
Bet: 3 Win-Place at 3-1 or better $4 total

2:44 p.m. ET • Aqueduct Race 6. I think that most of the bettor’s attention is going to be spread on the Chad Brown and Todd Pletcher entries, leaving a unique opportunity for value on a Christophe Clement horse, 6 Smokie Eyes. This filly out of Nyquist has a career record of 4-1-2-1 and would be a deal at the morning line.
Bet: 6 Across at 5-2 or better $6 total

3:30 p.m. ET • Del Mar Race 1. If the morning line price floats up a bit, we can score some value on 3 Shocking Grey. This filly has placed in both career starts and stretches out to 8 furlongs today.
Bet: 3 Win-Place at 2-1 or better $4 total

4:00 p.m. ET • Del Mar Race 2. It is trainer George Papaprodromou’s first race with 3 Hacking It Up, and jockey Joe Bravo gets the call. There is a lot to like in this spot, from the forward placement in the pace projection to the quality of competition faced. I think the post time price will be an overlay.
Bet: 3 Across at 4-1 or better $6 total

5:27 p.m. ET • Churchill Downs Race 10. Trainer Dallas Stewart entrusts jockey Brian Hernandez, Jr. in the saddle today as 6 Strava stretches out to a distance he is better suited where he is 2-1-0-1 lifetime.
Bet: 6 Across at 6-1 or better $6 total

6:00 p.m. ET • Del Mar Race 6. I do not put a whole lot of stock in the Lasix on / Lasix off handicapping angle, but there is no denying 3 Lady T has done her best running with Lasix on. She gets it for the first time in six months today, and goes first off a layoff. She also switches back to her preferred surface.
Bet: 3 Across at 7-2 or better $6 total

If my math tracks (and barring any scratches) that is $70 worth of bets for the weekend. As always, I encourage you to use my analysis and picks in conjunction with your own handicapping to inform your opinions. And most importantly: best of luck playing the races!
